In December, the scent of mulled wine and cinnamon fills the Christmas markets which have been established all over Europe as well as here in recent years.
It is said that it is a pagan Germanic goddess named Berchta who is at the origin of the legend of Christkindel. From the 4th century, the Germans gathered to honor him in the Christkindelsmärik which in German means “Christmas markets”. In France, it is the Strasbourg market which is THE reference. We have been visiting its stalls since 1570. But it is even older, since the first market in Vienna took place on December 6, 1294. Unfortunately, several Christmas markets sink into oblivion until the tradition resumes again beautiful in the mid-1990s. It was at this time that the renaissance reached Quebec.
