Moreover, in the United Kingdom, Mother&#039;s Day has long been called&nbsp;<em>Mothering Sunday<\/em>, in reference to this religious ceremony.&nbsp;<\/p><p>In the United States, the activist&nbsp;<strong>Julia Ward Howe<\/strong>&nbsp;initiated the Mother&#039;s Day Proclamation in 1870, inviting mothers around the world to unite to achieve peace. But it is above all&nbsp;<strong>Anna Jarvis<\/strong>&nbsp;(1864-1948) who is considered responsible for the international version we know today.
