Reduce your household waste - Community Compost Program

Reduce your household waste… and contribute to your community!

You are invited to participate in the Community Compost Program at the Centre des Grands-Vents.

It is easy to get started, by participating you’ll reduce your household waste by one-third, and you will be helping the environment and gardens all at the same time!

Here’s how to get started:

Register for the Community Compost Program  and you will receive your bucket (and some other little treats) for collecting organic waste at home..

Start collecting organic waste in your bucket at home, then bring it to the community composters at the Centre.

When spring rolls around, get a bag of compost for your garden, or enjoy the harvest of the community garden.

Composting is a fun activity for the whole family, including kids!

Each time you pour your compost into one of the community composters, follow these two simple steps:

1) Make sure you choose the right compost to put your waste in (Red  X: you cannot put your waste in this compost).

2) Weigh your bucket of compost

A contribution will be requested per family to receive the material

Price: $5 per member family - $10 per non-member family.

Community composting on the rise
BAPTISTE RICARD-CHÂTELAIN / Le Soleil /19 September 2019 5h30

Although it still plans to start collecting food waste for its biomethanization plant in 2022, Quebec City continues to fund new community composting sites. By the end of the year, there will be 31 such sites on the capital's territory.
For several years now, the Craque-Bitume community organization has been gradually expanding the service, especially in the central neighbourhoods. "At the beginning of 2019, 22 sites were in operation and funded in Quebec City, all located in the borough of La Cité-Limoilou, except one [in Charlesbourg]," reads a recently posted municipal document.
